Job summary

Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, TX is seeking a Per Diem Medical Laboratory Technician to support variable shifts and hours. The role involves collecting, processing, and analyzing specimens, performing routine and specialized tests, and ensuring quality control and compliance with safety and accreditation standards.

Candidates should have ASCP certification, an Associate degree or higher in a relevant science, and at least three years of hospital laboratory experience.

Qualifications

• ASCP certification, or equivalent, required
• Associates Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.
• 3 years of hospital laboratory work experience required
• Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required

Responsibilities

• Collect, process, and prepare specimens such as blood, urine, and other bodily fluids for analysis
• Perform routine and specialized tests to analyze specimens and provide data on patient health
• Interpret lab test results and ensure accuracy, enter data into laboratory information systems and prepare reports for healthcare providers
• Follow quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results
• Adhere to hospital policies, safety regulations, and accreditation standards
• Occasionally interact with patients, particularly when collecting specimens, and explain procedures to ensure patient comfort and cooperation

Responsibilities

• If you have experience as a Medical Lab Technician (MLT), Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT), or Laboratory Technician (LT) you are encouraged to apply for this position. Please see full posting for list of certification requirements.
• Collect, process, and prepare specimens such as blood, urine, and other bodily fluids for analysis
• Perform routine and specialized tests to analyze specimens and provide data on patient health, which may include tests in hematology, chemistry, and other areas
• Interpret lab test results and ensure accuracy, you may also enter data into laboratory information systems and prepare reports for healthcare providers
• Follow quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results, this may involve calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment and performing routine maintenance tasks
• Adhere to hospital policies, safety regulations, and accreditation standards, which could include maintaining a clean and organized work environment and using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
• Occasionally interact with patients, particularly when collecting specimens, and explain procedures to ensure patient comfort and cooperation
