Job summary

Harrison County Community Hospital (HCCH) in Harrison County, MO, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to perform routine testing across serology, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and immunohematology. Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

Department: Laboratory

Location: Harrison County Community Hospital (HCCH)

Reports to: Department Director

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt - Eligible for Overtime Employment Status: Full-Time

Job Summary/Objective

Performs routine testing in serology, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and basic immunohematology. Responsibilities include conducting qualitative and quantitative analyses, operating laboratory equipment and microscopic specimen review, and maintaining laboratory stock. May collect specimens from patients and ensure detailed records of all tests performed are accurately maintained and reported to authorized personnel.

Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory testing in serology, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis and immunohematology following established policies and procedures.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative determinations.

• Operate, troubleshoot and resolve technical problems that may arise during testing.

• Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains as needed for testing and research.
• Maintain laboratory stock, restocking supplies, and managing inventory to support uninterrupted laboratory operations.
• Collect specimens from patients while ensuring proper labeling, handling, and storage of samples.
• Keep detailed and accurate records of all tests performed and report results to authorized personnel in a timely manner.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and infection control standards.
• Participate in the quality control and quality assurance activities as well as proficiency testing requirements of the laboratory.
• Participate in continuing education and training to remain current with developments in the field of medical technology.
• Collaborate with other health care professionals to provide accurate and timely results.
• Assist Department Director when requested as necessary.

Skills/Abilities

• Strong knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and techniques.
• Proficiency in using laboratory equipment, including automated testing machines and manual tools.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in performing and documenting laboratory tests.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong communication skills to effectively report test results and interact with team members and patients.
• Knowledge of safety standards, infection control practices, and laboratory regulations.

Education and Experience

• Education: Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
• Certification: MLT certification or equivalent required.
• Experience: Prior laboratory experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and use laboratory equipment for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity to handle specimens, operate equipment, and perform precise laboratory procedures.
• Ability to lift and carry laboratory supplies or equipment as needed.
