Job summary

Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) for the Clinical Lab on a part-time basis. You will collect, process, and prepare specimens, perform routine and specialized tests, and report results to healthcare providers.

Qualifications include an Associate's degree in a life sciences field or MLT program, ASCP certification within one year, and license eligibility where required; a hospital laboratory background is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect, process, and prepare specimens such as blood, urine, and other bodily fluids for analysis.
• Perform routine and specialized tests to analyze specimens and provide data on patient health, which may include tests in hematology, chemistry, and other areas
• Interpret lab test results and ensure accuracy, you may also enter data into laboratory information systems and prepare reports for healthcare providers
• Follow quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results, this may involve calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment and performing routine maintenance tasks
• Adhere to hospital policies, safety regulations, and accreditation standards, which could include maintaining a clean and organized work environment and using PPE as required
• Occasionally interact with patients, particularly when collecting specimens, and explain procedures to ensure patient comfort and cooperation

Responsibilities

Qualifications

• Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required
• ASCP certification, or equivalent, required within one year of employment.
• Associates Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.
• 1 year of hospital laboratory work experience preferred
