Job description

Job Description: Medical Lab Technician (MLTII)

At Bon Secours Mercy Health, we are dedicated to continually improving healthcare quality, safety, and cost effectiveness. Our hospitals, care sites, and clinicians are recognized for clinical and operational excellence.

Working Shifts/Location:

• Hours: 10 hours/4 shifts (1600-0230 or 1700-0330) OR 8 hours/5 shifts (1600-0030 or 1700-0130)
• Shift: Evenings/Nights
• Schedule: Weekends every third weekend
• Location: Microbiology Lab at St. Mary's Hospital

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform routine, moderate, and highly complex laboratory diagnostic tests on blood, tissue, and other bodily fluids.
• Confirm test results and provide data to physicians to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
• Follow quality control programs to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
• Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Assist in training new employees and students in laboratory procedures and equipment use.
• Perform computer functions on Lab Information Systems (LIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS).
• Participate in continuing education relevant to the field.
• Assist with inventory control.

Minimum Requirements:

• MLT Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or eligibility (preferably ASCP).
• Associates degree in Medical Lab Technology or equivalent education, including at least 60 semester hours with chemistry and biology courses, completed through an accredited college or university, and successful completion of a medical lab technician program by a nationally accredited agency.
• Or completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the past ten years.
• At least 5 years of technical experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
