MLT or MT Job Summary:

As an MLT or MT, you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for providing accurate testing on patient samples, supporting physicians with quality results using various clinical laboratory equipment. You will ensure patient safety and confidentiality through proper laboratory techniques and procedures.

MLT or MT Job Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and operate clinical lab equipment according to manufacturer and laboratory policies. Interpret results and communicate appropriately, especially when results are abnormal or upon special request.
  • Accurately identify patient samples and accessions them into the Laboratory Information System using correct account numbers and test codes.
  • Handle hazardous and biohazardous materials in accordance with laboratory policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Run controls to verify the quality of testing before releasing results.
  • Provide phlebotomy services to patients as needed during the shift.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • ASCP Medical Technologist or MLT certification, or AMT Medical Technologist certification required.
  • Preferred: 5 years of experience in a hospital laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems, including order entry, inquiry, and specimen tracking.
  • Excellent communication skills, including telephone, written, and verbal communication, as well as critical value reporting.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety procedures related to hazardous chemicals.
  • Understanding of anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Ability to apply scientific thinking to problem-solving, data collection, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to evaluate data, consider alternative actions, and work collaboratively with hospital staff.
