Job summary

Duke Health's Heritage Clinical Lab in Durham, NC is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist to join a state-of-the-art clinical team. The role involves an 8-hour shift between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with occasional float duties to offsite labs; mileage is reimbursed when floating.

ASCP or AMT certification is strongly preferred. A BS/BA in Medical Technology or related field is required, with no prior experience necessary. Duke Health values patient-centered care and equal opportunity in employment.

Qualifications

• Bachelors of Science/Bachelor of Arts in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science; or Medical Technology required.
• ASCP or AMT certification strongly preferred.
• Experience: None required.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests using standard techniques and equipment.
• Operate manual or computerized instrumentation and calibrate per SOP.
• Process patient samples with proper ID techniques to ensure quality.
• Maintain quality control and quality assurance per procedures.
• Assist in lab inspections and proficiency testing.
• Provide guidance to students, interns, residents, staff as needed.
• Report safety incidents within 24 hours.
