Job summary

Mass General Brigham seeks a professional Medical Interpreter to facilitate interpretation and translation for diverse patient populations on site. You will support accurate communication for pre/post-operative materials, education, and discharge instructions while maintaining high ethical standards.

Onsite travel to a second location may be required. The role requires an accredited Medical Interpreter Certificate and preferred NBCMI certification, with 2–3 years healthcare interpreting

Qualifications

  • Adhere to the standard code of ethics for medical interpreters.
  • Keep accurate documentation of interpretation encounters with location, duration and purpose.
  • Coordinate and train staff on telephone interpretation services and equipment.
  • Answer calls promptly and interpret in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Represent the hospital professionally and on-time in all interpretations.
  • Assist with appointment reminders, rescheduling and coordinating interpreters as needed.
  • Help LEP patients navigate the hospital and access services.
  • Place outbound calls to confirm appointment dates and times.
  • May be required to take on-call requests for emergencies at night or on weekends.
  • Travel to second location (800 Huntington Avenue) as needed.

Job Summary

Summary: Responsible for facilitating the successful delivery of services to patients and family members of various languages.

Follows requests for interpretation, collaborating with qualified auxiliary interpreters for comprehensive accommodation of interpretation requests. Provides translation service (both sight translation & written translation) of pertinent materials for patients and families, such as written information regarding relevant services, pre-operative, post-operative, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care materials.

Qualifications

Essential Functions -Serve as a mediator, as necessary and when appropriate, to enhance communication between staff and patients/family as it relates to medical care and adhere to the standard code of ethics for medical interpreters.

  • Keep accurate documentation of interpretation encounters to include relevant data such as location, duration, and purpose.
  • Provides coordination and staff training on the use of the telephone language interpretation services (and relevant equipment).
  • Answer calls promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Function in a manner appropriate to each interpreted situation, demonstrating professional appearance, conduct, and promptness.
  • Adheres to standard code of ethics for medical interpreters.
  • Assisting with appointment reminders, rescheduling, and, in some cases, scheduling, coordinating, or dispatching interpreters for assignments.
  • Helping LEP patients navigate the hospital, including finding departments, understanding administrative forms and connecting with social services.
  • Placing outbound calls to scheduled patients to confirm appointment dates & times.
  • May be required to take on-call requests to be available for emergencies at night and on weekends.
  • Able to travel to our second location, 800 Huntington Avenue, is required as needed.

Medical Interpreter Certificate is required

National Board of Certificate for Medical Interpreters preferred

Experience

Healthcare and/or medical interpreting experience 2-3 years preferred
