Qualifications

• High School / GED is required.
• 1 year in Hospital coding.
• Completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) OR Certified In-patient Professional Coder (CIC).
• Familiarity with medical terminology.
• Strong data entry skills.
• Understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with health care team.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to assign accurate ICD codes.
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests and enters information into the system.
• Manages unbilled coding reports to support cash flow.
• Keeps updated with ICD guideline changes and applies them in daily work.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
