Job summary

Virginia Heart, a premier cardiovascular practice in Northern Virginia, is seeking a Medical Coder for our outpatient cardiology setting in Fairfax. The role reviews, codes, and updates charges to ensure accurate billing in alignment with the organization’s standards of excellence.

Ideal candidates will have CPC certification, CPT/ICD-10 CM coding expertise, and at least 5 years in healthcare billing with EPIC experience preferred. Join a team focused on trust, integrity, and patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification.
• CPT and ICD-10 CM coding expertise.
• Must be detail oriented.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• EPIC experience preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years direct experience in healthcare billing.
• Minimum of 3 years healthcare coding.
• Knowledge of third-party payers required.
• Must communicate effectively with manager and director.

Responsibilities

• Work on assigned charges in the Charge work queues.
• Code charges when needed and update charges for accurate billing.
• Understand requirements of various insurance carriers regarding allowable diagnosis codes.
• Monitor work queues and suggest workflow improvements to the Team Lead.
• Assist follow up team with reviewing and correcting charges promptly.
• Identify trends in new errors and report to Team Lead.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or Assistant Manager.
