Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Coder to review medical records, assign ICD codes for diagnoses and procedures, and support revenue cycle by reducing unbilled days. Responsibilities include abstracting data elements, entering coded information, staying current with ICD guideline updates, and collaborating with health care teams.

A High School diploma, 1 year hospital coding experience, and CCS or CIC certification are required; an Associate's degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School / GED required.
• 1 year in Hospital coding experience required.
• Completion of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology coding courses.
• CCS or CIC certification required.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and strong data entry skills.
• Understanding of computer applications and ability to work with health care teams.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to assign ICD codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters coded information into designated systems.
• Manages unbilled coding reports to support cash flow.
• Keeps updated on ICD guidelines through training and clinics and applies updates in daily work.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
