Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a medical coder to perform thorough medical record reviews and abstract data using ICD-10 CM and CPT coding systems. The role supports hospital cash flow by accurate coding and timely reporting.

Responsibilities include applying guidelines, updating coding practices, and collaborating with healthcare teams. Prior coding experience and HIM credentials are preferred, with a pay range reflecting this role.

Qualifications

• High School/GED
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms
• Medical Terminology
• Strong data entry skills
• Understanding of computer applications
• Ability to work with health care team
• Certifications such as RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A ( Apprentice)

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters coded information into the system.
• Manages unbilled coding reports to aid cash flow.
• Keeps updated on ICD-10 CM/CPT guidelines and implements changes in daily work.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
