Certified Medical Coder, OPA–Anchorage, Full-Time

Orthopedic Physicians Alaska seeks a highly skilled, upbeat, fast-paced, dedicated, and professional Certified Medical Coder & Orthopedic Surgery Coder to join our rapidly growing and dynamic team. Ideal Attributes
  • Certified CPC, COSC, and/or CPMA (AAPC or AHIMA)
  • Physician Charge Coding (CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10)
  • Experience with Orthopedic Surgery Procedure Coding

Please be prepared to take a coding test at the time of interview.

Representative Duties
  • Review notes from inpatient and outpatient encounters and code them according to documentation (assign accurate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes)
  • Post charges when needed for services rendered
  • Audit chart documentation for quality purposes to ensure provider coding and documentation are synchronous; communicate audit findings to department leadership as directed by management
  • Make judicious decisions on code assignment with high accuracy
  • Introduce procedural changes; CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes, and educate staff on new codes
  • Liaise professionally with physicians and other parties to clarify information
  • Advise and train physicians and staff on medical coding as requested
  • Perform accurate and efficient coding for Hospital Physician Consultation, Emergency Room, and Orthopedic Surgery services when needed
  • Familiar with Infusion, Injection, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Massage Therapy, imaging modalities, and physician services coding and documentation requirements
Job Requirements
  • Active Certified Professional Coding Certificate
  • Two (2) years of current outpatient physician services coding experience
  • Two (2) years of Evaluation and Management (E&M) services coding experience
  • Passed ICD-10 proficiency exam
