Position Overview:

VECRA, Inc. is seeking Certified Medical Coders (Full-Time and Part-Time) to provide expert coding services for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Candidates should have experience in coding, recoding, abstracting, analyzing, and assembling medical record data, with a focus on VA's specific needs. The role involves coding various encounter types using ICD-10 CM, CPT, HCPCS, and other coding systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Code Medical Records: Assign ICD-10 CM, ICD-10 PCS, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and units based on provider documentation for outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and specialty services.
  2. Maintain Coding Standards: Follow the latest VA, CMS, AHA, AMA, and NCHS guidelines, and adhere to Veterans Health Administration Coding Guidelines when needed.
  3. Code Encounters: Handle outpatient and inpatient coding, including radiology, lab, surgical, and hospital stays.
  4. Utilize VA Systems: Use VistA or other VA systems for coding activities.
  5. Achieve High Accuracy: Maintain at least 95% coding accuracy and meet performance deadlines.
  6. Follow Policies: Comply with VA policies and use appropriate coding guidelines.
  7. Handle Specialized Coding: Manage coding for claims such as Veteran Tortfeasor, Workers’ Compensation, and others.
  8. Data Entry & Documentation: Ensure accurate data entry and review into VA systems.
  9. Ensure Confidentiality & Compliance: Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect PHI/PII.
  10. Participate in Performance Monitoring: Engage in reviews to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Current Medical Coder certification (CCS, CCS-P, CPC, RHIA, RHIT, or equivalent).
  • At least 2 years of VA or similar healthcare coding experience.
  • Proficiency in ICD-10 CM, CPT, HCPCS, and coding guidelines.
  • Ability to achieve 95% accuracy and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with VA systems (VistA) and coding software.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • High-speed internet and a secure workspace.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain VA security clearance.
  • Strong communication skills.
