Medical Coder (Remote - Optional) Wichita KS

Position Overview

The Medical Coder will be responsible for coding professional services at our high-volume pain management practice. Responsibilities include reviewing medical records, assigning accurate diagnosis and procedure codes, and performing analysis to ensure completeness and compliance. Remote work is possible for experienced coders, but onsite presence in Wichita, KS, may be required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assign CPT and ICD-10 codes for professional services and procedures, focusing on E&M and pain management.
  • Assist providers with coding updates and education.
  • Support billing staff with coding questions and denials.
  • Conduct coding audits and provide feedback to providers.
  • Review hospital records for deficiencies, update EMR, and notify relevant staff.
  • Ensure accuracy of transcribed documents and update deficiency lists.
  • Assist with inpatient, outpatient, and hospital procedures coding as needed.
  • Stay current with coding guidelines and maintain necessary credentials.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold hospital policies and confidentiality standards.
  • Maintain effective communication with management.
Qualifications
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or CCS-Physician-based (CCS-P).
  • Associate’s Degree in Health Information Technology preferred.
  • Minimum two years of professional coding experience, especially in E&M coding.
  • Pain management coding experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of insurance payors and coding software (e.g., 3M).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
Physical and Environmental Requirements

Ability to read, speak, and write English fluently; proficient in math, reading, and computer skills; good communication skills; ability to sit for extended periods; exposure to computer work environment.
