Job summary

Family Eye Care Center & Optical Gallery is seeking an experienced Medical Billing Manager to lead our in-house billing team in Westford. This role requires strong billing knowledge, leadership, and a focus on accurate, timely payments.

Ideal candidate has supervisory experience, excellent communication, and a track record of improving billing processes. Ophthalmology billing experience is a plus. In-person, full-time position with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Must have strong medical billing knowledge and at least several years in supervision.
• Experience with ophthalmology or specialty medical billing is a plus.
• Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop a billing team.

Responsibilities

• Manage, support, and train the in-house Billing Coordinators.
• Oversee daily billing operations and ensure processes are followed.
• Monitor accounts receivable, insurance follow-up, denials, and appeals.
• Oversee payment posting, EOBs, EFTs, deposits, and balancing.
• Audit charges and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Maintain procedures and codes within the EMR/PM system.
• Identify and resolve billing discrepancies and workflow issues.
• Prepare weekly and annual billing reports for leadership.
• Collaborate with providers and staff on documentation and coding concerns.
• Develop and improve billing processes as the practice grows.
• Support additional billing and admin duties as needed.

About the Role

Family Eye Care Center & Optical Gallery is seeking an experienced, organized, and detail-oriented Medical Billing Manager to lead our in-house billing department.

This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our billing team and helping ensure accurate, timely, and efficient billing and collections processes. The ideal candidate combines strong medical billing knowledge with excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

The Medical Billing Manager will work closely with billing staff, providers, and practice leadership to maintain effective billing workflows, address issues, and support the financial operations of the practice. Prior medical billing and supervisory experience are strongly preferred, and ophthalmology experience is a plus.

What You’ll Do

• Manage, support, and train our in-house team of Billing Coordinators
• Oversee daily billing operations and ensure established processes are followed accurately and consistently
• Monitor accounts receivable, insurance follow-up, denials, appeals, and patient balances
• Oversee payment posting, EOBs, electronic fund transfers, deposits, and daily balancing
• Audit route slips, charges, and billing documentation for accuracy and completeness
• Maintain billing procedures, codes, and related information within the EMR/practice management system
• Identify and resolve billing discrepancies, workflow issues, and insurance-related problems
• Prepare and review weekly, annual, and other billing reports for practice leadership
• Work closely with providers and staff to address documentation, coding, and billing concerns
• Help develop, maintain, and improve billing processes as the practice continues to grow
• Support additional billing and administrative responsibilities as needed
