Job summary

BHMG Urgent Care in an outpatient clinic is seeking a Medical Assistant to support direct patient care and clinical tasks. You will obtain vitals, document history, reconcile medications, and help manage EPIC-based workflows. After competency is proven, you may perform EKGs, injections, phlebotomy, and lab duties as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1+ year MA experience with direct patient care in a clinical setting.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program with hands-on patient care.
• Completion of MA orientation and clinical competency assessment.
• Basic computer skills; EMR experience a plus.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• BAT and DOT certifications within 90 days of hire for Occupational Medicine.
• MA certification from AAMA/AMT/NCCT/AAMP preferred or LPN/RN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Check in patients and obtain vital signs and medication reconciliation.
• Document patient history and manage clinical documentation.
• Navigate EPIC EMR and coordinate care with providers, pharmacies, insurers.
• Support patient flow and coordinate tests, procedures, and prior authorizations.
• Perform with physician when competency allows (EKG, phlebotomy, injections).

Summary

The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and clinical support within an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient history, and facilitating patient flow. Additional duties involve managing the electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling appointments, processing medication requests, handling prior authorizations, and coordinating tests and procedures. Upon successful completion of clinical competency, the role may also require performing EKGs, lab tests, injections, and/or phlebotomy. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to ensure efficient patient care and support for providers.

The MA will be responsible for the coordination of direct patient care activities and providing clinical support to providers within one of our clinical practices.

Duties include:

• Check in patients, obtaining vital signs & medication reconciliation

• Navigating electronic health record system (EPIC)

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency
• 1+ year(s) of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting required. Experience must include direct, hands‑on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g. EKG's, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines).
• Or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, that includes hands on patient experience as part of the curriculum, required.
• Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation.
• Basic computer skills, experience with EMR System a plus.
• Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
• BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.
• Preferred Qualifications for a Certified Medical Assistant:
• Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP.
• Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current unrestricted licensure.
• Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation.
