Job summary

Baptist Health in Kentucky is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide direct patient care and clinical support in an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient histories, and helping maintain smooth patient flow.

The role involves EPIC EMR, appointment scheduling, processing medication requests, prior authorizations, coordinating tests, and, upon competency, performing EKGs, labs, injections, and phlebotomy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1+ year MA experience in a clinical setting with direct patient care.
• Completion of an accredited MA program with hands-on patient experience.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• BAT and DOT certifications within 90 days in Occupational Medicine (if applicable).
• Basic computer skills; EMR experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs and document patient history.
• Reconcile medications and assist with clinical procedures.
• Facilitate patient flow and support providers.
• Manage EPIC EMR, scheduling, and prior authorizations.
• Coordinate tests and procedures; perform EKGs, phlebotomy, injections as needed.

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and clinical support within an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient history, and facilitating patient flow.

Additional duties involve managing the electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling appointments, processing medication requests, handling prior authorizations, and coordinating tests and procedures. Upon successful completion of clinical competency, the role may also require performing EKGs, lab tests, injections, and/or phlebotomy.

Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to ensure efficient patient care and support for providers. This role requires regular on-site presence to perform the essential job functions.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency
• 1+ year(s) of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting required. Experience must include direct, hands-on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g. EKG’s, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines).
• Or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, that includes hands on patient experience as part of the curriculum, required.
• Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation.
• Basic computer skills, experience with EMR System a plus.
• Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
• BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications for a Certified Medical Assistant:

• Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP.
