Indiana Health Centers, Inc. (IHC) in South Bend is recruiting for a Medical Assistant (MA) to join the team. Recent graduates, experienced MAs, and Certified MAs are encouraged to apply. The clinic operates with patient-focused, primary care services across Indiana.

Qualifications

• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patient to the examination room and relay information to the provider.
• Obtain vital signs and pertinent physical data.
• Complete and update patient medical history.
• Check health plan coverage appropriate by age group.
• Assist doctor with examinations and minor procedures; perform EKGs and basic testing.
• Perform venipunctures and immunizations.
• Conduct lab tests and process specimens; manage related paperwork.
• Update EMR with test results and follow up on TB and immunizations.
• Manage inventories for exam rooms and labs; sterilize instruments.

Medical Assistant Role Responsibilities Include

• Functions as a support person for the patient; assists the patient to the examination room, gives information to the patient, and collects information for the provider
• Obtains vital signs and other pertinent physical data
• Completes and updates the medical history of the patient
• Check the health care plan appropriate for the patient's age
• Assists the doctor with examinations, minor surgeries, performs EKGs, hearing and vision testing, and nebulizer treatments
• Performs venipunctures and gives immunizations
• Performs HCT/HGBs, hematocrit, blood sugars, urine dipsticks, pregnancy tests, lead screens, strep tests, etc.
• Prepares and sends out laboratory, pap, lead screens, and STD for testing
• Keeps logs and paperwork associated with the above tests and procedures current
• Records laboratory tests and processes laboratory test results
• Follows up on TB and Immunizations
• Updates EMR with test results and checks results against the lab test log
• Completes medical and laboratory supply inventories for all exam rooms and labs
• Sterilizes instruments

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Proof of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) program
• Proof of current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (AED included)

Preferred

• Certified Medical Assistant
