Job summary

Indiana Health Centers, Inc. in Kokomo is recruiting a Medical Assistant to support patient care, prepare examinations, and manage vital signs and records. The MA will assist clinicians with examinations, minor procedures, EKGs, immunizations, and lab specimen handling.

Experience with EHR is preferred, with strong communication and interpersonal skills. High school diploma or equivalent plus MA program completion and BLS certification are required.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent and proof of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Proof of current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification included.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients to examination room and provide information to patients.
• Obtain vital signs and pertinent physical data.
• Complete and update patient medical history.
• Assist doctor with examinations and minor procedures.
• Perform EKGs, hearing and vision tests, and nebulizer treatments.
• Perform venipunctures and immunizations.
• Prepare and send laboratory specimens for testing.
• Maintain logs and paperwork for tests and procedures and update EMR.

The MA contributes to IHC’s mission and goals of client satisfaction, quality of care, cost competitiveness, and productivity by performing basic preparation and examination of the patient, maintenance of supplies in the examination areas, as well as maintenance of instruments and equipment.

Medical Assistant Role Responsibilities Include

• Functions as a support person for the patient; assists the patient to the examination room, gives information to the patient, and collects information for the provider
• Obtains vital signs and other pertinent physical data
• Completes and updates the medical history of the patient
• Check the health care plan appropriate for the patient’s age
• Assists the doctor with examinations, minor surgeries, performs EKGs, hearing and vision testing, and nebulizer treatments
• Performs venipunctures and gives immunizations
• Performs HCT/HGBs, hematocrit, blood sugars, urine dipsticks, pregnancy tests, lead screens, strep tests, etc.
• Prepares and sends out laboratory, pap, lead screens, and STD for testing
• Keeps logs and paperwork associated with the above tests and procedures current
• Records laboratory tests and processes laboratory test results
• Follows up on TB and Immunizations
• Updates EMR with test results and checks results against the lab test log
• Completes medical and laboratory supply inventories for all exam rooms and labs
• Sterilizes instruments
