The Medical Assistant will assist physicians with various aspects of patient care, including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks, ensuring patient satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure room.
- Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams, etc.
- Collect patient information/history, take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
- Relay instructions to patients and families.
- Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
- Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
- Complete forms and requisitions as needed.
- Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
- Schedule appointments.
- Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
- Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to protocol.
- Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between visits to maintain infection control.
- Manage inventory of supplies and restock exam/procedure rooms.
- Organize patient flow and check schedules.
- Answer calls and provide pertinent information, including patient education.
- Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure, including phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
- Assist physicians with procedures.
- Comply with regulatory requirements (OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
- Maintain confidentiality of medical records and data.
- Administer injectable medications and vaccines under supervision, when appropriate.
- Perform other front office responsibilities as required.
