The salary range for this position is $18.12-$27.76 based on experience.

The Medical Assistant will assist physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure room.
- Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
- Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.
- Relay instructions to patients/families.
- Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
- Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
- Complete forms/requisitions as needed.
- Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
- Schedule appointments.
- Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
- Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
- Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
- Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
- Check schedules and organize patient flow.
- Answer calls and provide pertinent information including patient education as directed.
- Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
- Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
- Assist physicians with procedures.
- Comply with requirements of regulatory agencies (OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain confidentiality of medical records and data. Follow all UPMC policies.
- Under supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.
- Perform other front office responsibilities as required.
- Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Medical Assistant:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment responsibilities.
Medical Assistant, Senior:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT), or certification (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA), or at least 1 year of patient care experience.
- Proficiency in practice-specific tasks.
- Basic computer skills and medical knowledge as above.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
- CPR certification (AHA standards) within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR.
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting (renewal required).
- Act 33, Act 34, Act 73 FBI Clearance (renewals required).
