Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health in Boston, MA, seeks an experienced Medical Assistant to support smooth practice operations and patient care. You will perform vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs and assist during procedures while handling administrative tasks such as greeting patients, check-in, and scheduling.

You will use the EMR system to queue prescriptions, document tasks for billing, and assist with patient care coordination.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 0-1 years related work experience required.
• Basic familiarity with computers; ability to navigate web-based applications.
• MA, EMT, CNA, LNA certificate or diploma; or at least 5 months of direct patient care experience in a clinical or research setting.

Responsibilities

• Performs medical assisting duties including vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy and assisting during procedures; ensures patient care areas are clean and stocked; escorts patients to radiology and lab as needed.
• Performs point of care testing and maintains quality control for testing equipment; provides patients with instructions for tests and procedures.
• Monitors and maintains medical equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness, sterilization and valid dates.
• Reviews medication lists in the EMR for clinician review; may retrieve schedule II- V medications under supervision; does not perform licensed personnel duties.
• Uses EMR to queue prescription renewals and documents tasks in EMR for billing.
• Prepares schedules, patient charts and related documents for clinical activities; procures and correlates medical correspondence.
• Monitors patients and visitors, facilitates flow, informs about delays; acts as liaison between patients and staff; screens calls.
