Medical Assistant / Patient Service Specialist I
Position Summary
This position functions as a member of both the clinical and administrative team, completing all assigned daily tasks to ensure smooth day-to-day operations in the FPG physician practice. The Medical Assistant I / Patient Service Specialist (PSS) I must maintain a professional, positive manner when communicating with patients and all customers, in-person, over the phone, or via email.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist providers in delivering quality care to patients.
- Room patients and prepare them for provider visits.
- Take vital signs and record them accurately in the EMR, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, weight, height, and respiratory rate.
- Record patient history, chief complaint, pharmacy information, prescription list, etc., into the EMR.
- Obtain necessary consents and complete required forms for specific visit types.
- Perform in-office testing and controls as needed.
- Perform EKGs as ordered.
- Chaperone providers as required.
- Administer vaccines and medications ordered by providers, following FMG policies.
- Stock rooms and monitor expiration dates of supplies.
- Assist with incoming calls by answering, triaging, and routing as needed.
- Register patients in the EMR, verify demographic and insurance information, and conduct eligibility checks.
- Schedule patient appointments and testing as directed, following scheduling rules.
- Conduct pre-visit planning for upcoming appointments.
- Perform outreach to patient groups for care and scheduling specialty appointments and testing.
- Inform the manager of supply needs and assist with ordering.
- Obtain prior authorizations and insurance referrals as required.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Adhere to all FPG policies and ensure patient confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Skills
- Strong customer service skills expected.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Experience with EMR systems, preferably Athena, is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an approved medical assistant program or equivalent preferred.
