Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide patient care in a clinical setting. The role includes rooming patients, taking vital signs, preparing histories, performing screenings, and assisting providers with procedures.

Responsibilities cover venipuncture, specimen handling, POCT, CLIA-waived tests, and safe medication administration. The MA will handle refills, scheduling, referrals, and patient communication as part of a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured military clinical training per DD214 may count in lieu of a formal program.
• Successful completion of BLS certification depending on division.
• 2 years of verifiable MA experience within last 5 years (as applicable per site).
• Proficient computer skills and use of electronic medical records systems.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows policies and procedures.
• Performs rooming/visit tasks including vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
• Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
• Performs venipuncture and other lab duties; collects, labels, packs specimens; prepares lab orders and tracks results.
• Performs Point of Care testing (POCT) and CLIA-waived diagnostic testing.
• Administers medications and vaccines safely following medication administration rights.
• Handles refills, authorizations, scheduling, and referrals; maintains patient messaging.
• Cross-trains to duties relevant to clinic practice within MA scope.
• Maintains clean, stocked, and organized work environment; ensures equipment is functioning.
