Job summary

Atrium Health seeks a Medical Assistant to perform rooming tasks, vital signs, histories, screenings, and assist in procedures across clinics. The role includes specimen collection, POCT testing, and vaccine administration in compliance with CLIA and department policies.

Ideal candidates will hold a high school diploma or GED, a certified MA program or equivalent training, and current BLS. Responsibilities span from scheduling to referrals, with emphasis on teamwork and patient safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or may have completed structured military training which is clinical in nature per DD214 in lieu of a formal medical assistant program or EMT.
• Current BLS/CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows all policies and procedures.
• Performs rooming/visit tasks: vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social determinants of health).
• Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
• Performs venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, lab orders/requisitions, results tracking; performs POCT per standing orders; adheres to CLIA standards.
• Administers medications and vaccines safely.
• Handles other duties: refills, authorizations, logs, patient messaging, orders, scheduling, referrals.
• Cross trained for duties relevant to specialty or clinic within Medical Assistant scope.
• Demonstrates communication, teamwork, and escalation as needed.
• Maintains clean workspace; checks equipment and stock.
