Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient visits across multiple Charlotte-area clinics. You will perform rooming tasks, take vital signs, review medical history, and assist with procedures as ordered.

Role includes lab duties, patient education, medication administration, and coordinating referrals. Requires a high school diploma or GED and completion of an accredited MA program or equivalent military training. BLS may be required depending on division.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or may have completed structured military training which is clinical in nature per DD214 in lieu of a formal medical assistant program or EMT.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and maintains training per area of specialty when providing patient care.
• Performs rooming/visit tasks: vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health).
• Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
• Performs lab duties: venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, lab orders/requisitions, results tracking; performs CLIA-waived tests per standing orders.
• Administers medications/vaccines safely following medication administration rights.
• Completes other duties: medication refills, insurance authorizations, patient messaging, scheduling, referrals.
• Cross trained for duties relevant to clinic practice within MA scope.
• Demonstrates effective communication, teamwork, and escalation as needed.
• Maintains clean work environment; ensures equipment is functioning and stocked.
• Provides age-appropriate care and understands age-specific needs.
