Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Medical Assistant in the Greater Charlotte area to support clinical operations and patient care. The role includes rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, and coordinating with providers for procedures and tests.

Responsibilities include lab work, venipuncture, POCT, vaccine administration, and handling referrals and scheduling. A suitable MA program or military training is required, with emphasis on safety and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured military training in lieu of a formal MA program or EMT.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows policies.
• Performs rooming tasks: vital signs, med reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
• Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
• Performs lab duties: venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, prep of lab orders, results tracking; POCT per order; CLIA-waived tests.
• Administers medications and vaccines safely per medication administration rights.
• Performs other duties: refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory logs, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, scheduling, referrals.
• Cross trained to perform duties relevant to clinic practice within MA scope.
• Demonstrates effective communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
• Maintains clean work environment; ensures equipment and areas are stocked and in working order.
• Must provide age-appropriate care and understand growth and development across the lifespan.
