Job summary

The Medical Assistant at Mary Washington Healthcare manages patient flow, greets patients, obtains vitals, and supports exam rooms with provider visits. You will document all interventions in the EMR and assist with clerical duties to keep the clinic running smoothly.

Certification as a Medical Assistant and AHA BLS CPR are required; EMR experience preferred; at least 2 years in a medical office and ability to multi-task including evenings or weekends may be needed.

Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant is required; if not certified at hire, must complete certification within 18 months.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
• Proficiency in phlebotomy, blood pressure, EKG, and injections.
• Knowledge of infection control, safety, and patient confidentiality.
• EMR experience preferred; minimum 2 years in a medical office setting.

Responsibilities

• Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms in a timely and courteous manner.
• Reviews charts to ensure reports needed by the provider are available and samples are obtained.
• Obtains and documents patient chief complaint and vitals (height, weight, BP).
• Assists providers with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
• Draws blood and prepares specimens for labs, routing them appropriately.
• Documents all activities and instructions in the medical record; communicates with patients.
• Coordinates scheduling of future appointments, surgeries, or tests.
