Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare is seeking a Medical Assistant to manage patient flow, obtain vitals, and support providers in a busy clinic. The role requires certification and proficiency in basic clinical skills, EMR use, and patient communication.

You will assist with exams, collect specimens, document care, and help schedule follow-ups in a collaborative team environment. Flexibility for varying hours and a commitment to quality care are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be certified Medical Assistant or have completed an MA training program with 2 years of MA experience.
• Must obtain MA certification within 18 months if not certified at hire.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
• Proficiency in basic clinical skills (phlebotomy, vitals, injections) as required.
• Knowledge of infection control, safety and patient confidentiality policies.
• Minimum 2 years’ prior clinical support experience in a medical office; EMR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet and escort patients to exam rooms promptly and courteously.
• Review charts and ensure required reports/results are available before exams.
• Obtain chief complaint, vitals, and assist with examinations and procedures.
• Draw blood and prepare specimens for labs; route specimens as needed.
• Document all activities and patient responses in the medical record.
• Communicate provider instructions to patients within scope of training.
• Adhere to infection control, safety and confidentiality policies.
• Telephone prescriptions to pharmacies per provider orders.
• Assist scheduling of follow-up appointments, surgeries and testing.
