Description

The Medical Assistant reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Medical Assistant is a member of the healthcare team primarily responsible for providing support to physicians, nurses, and other licensed medical staff by facilitating efficient patient flow, assisting with various patient care activities, and performing related administrative functions. They ensure efficient patient flow, maintain a clean and safe environment, promote patient satisfaction through professional interactions, and safeguard patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities
  1. Assure efficient patient flow through the site:
    • Escort patients, identify with two identifiers, and prepare for examinations.
    • Obtain and document vital signs, allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy info.
    • Inform providers of significant changes or symptoms.
    • Set up equipment and supplies needed for visits.
    • Clean and prepare exam rooms for the next patient.
    • Respond to needs to maintain flow and prioritize tasks.
  2. Assist practitioners with procedures such as ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, specimen collection, and waived testing.
  3. Provide high-quality care by maintaining exam rooms, inventory, and equipment following protocols.
  4. Promote patient satisfaction through professional interactions and team collaboration.
  5. Perform specialty-specific procedures as delegated.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Proof of eligibility for certification exams (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA).
  • For new graduates within 6 months: a letter from school or certifying body.
  • For non-certified or graduates past 6 months: a letter from certifying body.
  • Within 6 months of employment, complete one of the following certifications: CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, or NRCMA.
All Candidates/Incumbents:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification.
  • Signed acknowledgment of certification requirement within 6 months.
  • Strong computer skills.
Preferred:
  • Completion of accredited MA training program.
  • 1-2 years ambulatory care experience.
  • Experience with electronic medical records.
