Job summary

Ascension is seeking a Medical Assistant in Pensacola, FL for the Internal Medicine department. The role supports the patient journey by greeting patients, taking vitals, collecting medical history, and assisting providers during examinations and procedures.

You will follow up with patients on test results, address health questions as directed, maintain clean treatment rooms, and manage referrals and prior authorizations to keep the clinic running smoothly.

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent required; relevant healthcare experience preferred.
• Basic life support (BLS) certification required within 1 month of hire.
• CMA/AAMA or similar credential preferred; Florida BMO registration valued.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients, take vitals, collect medical history, and assist providers during exams.
• Update patients on test results and respond to health questions as directed by the provider.
• Maintain clean, safe treatment rooms and prepare them for procedures.
• Support administrative workflows: charting, patient inquiries, referrals, and prior authorizations.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Manage the patient journey by greeting patients, taking vitals, collecting medical history, and proactively assisting providers during examinations and procedures.
• Provide clear, supportive follow-up by updating patients on test results and discussing health-related questions as directed by the provider.
• Maintain a safe and pristine environment by cleaning and preparing treatment rooms.
• Drive efficiency by managing critical administrative workflows, including charting, addressing patient questions, and processing referrals and prior authorizations.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• Required Credential(s):
• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Preferred Credential(s):
• Certified Medical Assistant credentialed from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Nat'l Medical Assistant (MA) Certification - CMA (Cert. Medical Assistant), RMA (Registered Medical Assistant)/AAMA Cert. (American Association of Medical Assistants). NCCT, AAMA, or AMT are acceptable certification sites. Completion of Basic Machine Operators (BMO) cert. preferred. Current registration with State of FL as a BMO Operator preferred.
• Medical Assistant.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required. *Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.

Additional Preferences

• 1 year of medical assistant experience.
