Job summary

Akron Children's in Wooster, OH is seeking a Medical Assistant II to provide proficient clinical and administrative support under the direction of a Provider or Licensed Nurse.

The role includes preparing patients, taking vital signs, phlebotomy, assisting with exams, data collection for care plans, and accurate EPIC documentation. Part-time, onsite with a $2,000 sign-on bonus; 24 hours/week, 7:30-5pm shifts.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program, EMT Program, or Paramedic Program is required.
• Certification: BLS training from the American Heart Association is required.
• Certification: Medical Assistant certification preferred.
• Experience: no experience required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
• Experience in phlebotomy is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare environment is preferred.
• Experience with EPIC or similar EMR is preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examination; record vital signs and perform phlebotomy as needed.
• Administer medications as directed by Providers per policy.
• Collect data for assessment and discharge planning under supervision.
• Process and submit laboratory specimens per policy.
• Document care accurately in EPIC system.
• Schedule appointments, prep visits, collect co-pays, track patients.
• Perform department-specific clinical duties (POCT, vision/hearing screens).
• Handle routine office tasks (faxing, copying, filing).
• Maintain exam rooms; restock and clean areas.
• Build positive relationships with patients and families.
• Triage work-related issues with supervision as needed.
• Participate in departmental process improvement projects.
• Follow safety policies to ensure a safe care environment.
