Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support under a Provider or licensed Nurse. The role includes vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, and EPIC documentation, with duties spanning patient prep and room turnover.

Ideal candidates have a Medical Assistant program, BLS, and familiarity with EPIC or similar EMR systems; part-time schedule with no weekends, 24 hours/week, M-F, onsite.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology required.
• Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) required.
• EMR experience with EPIC preferred.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant, EMT, or Paramedic program required.
• BLS certification required; Medical Assistant certification preferred.
• Years of relevant experience: no experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examination and records vital signs.
• Performs phlebotomy and administers medications as directed.
• Collects and processes lab specimens per policy.
• Documents care in EPIC accurately and timely.
• Schedules appointments and assists with check-in and co-pay collection.
• Maintains examination rooms and restock supplies.
• Develops positive relationships with patients and families.
• Follows safety policies to ensure a safe care environment.
• Performs department-specific duties as assigned.
