Job summary

Axis Community Health in Pleasanton, CA is seeking a Medical Assistant I to support physicians and keep clinic flow smooth. You will register patients, assist with examinations, run basic lab screenings, and maintain accurate records.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, 6–12 months in a healthcare setting, and current Medical Assistant certification. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred, with strong phone, billing, and EHR skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Six months to one year of healthcare experience as Medical Assistant and receptionist.
• Current valid certification as a Medical Assistant.
• Excellent telephone patient service skills.
• Knowledge of patient billing procedures and insurance verification.
• English/Spanish bilingual preferred.
• Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and direct them to the appropriate location and services, maintaining courtesy at all times.
• Register patients and schedule appointments according to established procedures.
• Determine financial status and eligibility for Axis Community Health services.
• Assist patients in completing forms and document information per Axis protocols.
• Provide clinical support for the assigned department/provider.
• Prepare patients for examinations and document findings per Axis protocols.
• Perform basic laboratory screenings according to protocol.
• Provide injections under RN supervision.
• Assist with clerical tasks and maintain patient records.
• Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of instruments and ensure supplies are available.
• Participate in staff meetings and training events.
