Job summary

Roots Community Health invites applications for a Medical Assistant to support a multidisciplinary primary care team in Oakland. You will manage patient intake and flow, record vitals, perform phlebotomy, EKG, audiometry, administer injections, and maintain charts in the Electronic Health Record while assisting providers.

Requirements include a minimum of 2 years MA experience, a high school diploma or GED, and familiarity with community clinic settings. Bilingual Spanish is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Medical Assistant experience.
• High School graduate or GED recipient.
• Two years’ experience in a community clinic or medical office preferred.
• Registration with the American Medical Technicians Association or CMA preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to perform phlebotomy, EKG and audiogram tests.
• Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (EHR).
• Experience with Microsoft Office software.
• Proficiency in speaking, reading and writing English.
• Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms before and after examinations.
• Assist in patient flow management and rooming.
• Take and record vital signs in the EHR.
• Interact with clients respectfully and maintain boundaries.
• Perform intake, histories, and initial assessments.
• Record chief complaint and prepare patients for visits.
• Perform EKG, audiometry and other tests as needed.
• Assist during examinations and immunizations.
• File and store lab results, X-rays and reports.
• Maintain stock of medical supplies and check expiry dates.
• Cross-train at Oakland sites and support follow-up/referrals.
• Attend team meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
