Job Description

A Certified or Registered Medical Assistant Float provides patient care under the direction of a medical provider. Responsible for rooming patients, taking vital signs, and facilitating the workflow of the physician schedule. Utilizes the EMR to retrieve patient's medical records, x-ray films, scans, lab work, etc., in preparation for the patient's office visit. Performs computer data entry to maintain and update the patient's electronic medical record. Performs general clerical duties in support of patient care including answering phones, relaying messages, placing follow-up calls to patients, copying, and faxing. This position requires working at multiple sites.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program required.
  • Registered MA or nationally certified MA certifications required.
  • Two to four years of prior medical assistant or healthcare experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy skills required.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish) are a plus.
  • Computer skills and typing required; previous experience with electronic medical records strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Calm, professional attitude in stressful situations, with high ethics in maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Physical and mental requirements include standing, walking, sitting, handling light materials, multitasking, dealing with stressful situations, and effective communication.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Patient Relations
  • Greet and attend to patient needs to achieve satisfaction.
  • Respond to patient requests promptly.
  • Assist with scheduling, obtaining patient demographics, insurance, and referral information.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Assist with nursing desk phones, voicemail, and relaying messages.
Clerical
  • Maintain patient charts and records.
  • Order and retrieve medical records, x-ray films, scans, lab work, etc.
  • Fax necessary documentation to medical offices.
  • Support staff in copying, typing, and faxing.
  • Schedule tests and procedures as per doctor's orders.
  • Post results on charts and forward to doctors.
Documentation
  • Document prior authorizations and maintain logs.
  • Assist in maintaining outpatient procedure logs.
  • Accurately document observations, actions, and patient outcomes, maintaining confidentiality.
