Job summary

Chesapeake Oncology Hematology Associates is hiring a Medical Assistant to support patient intake, exam-room coordination, and clinical procedures. The role involves injections, specimen handling, and collaborative patient care in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of medical assisting experience (preferred).
• Completion of a Medical Assistant or CNA program.
• Able to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
• Strong professionalism and customer-service skills required.
• Clear, concise communication with doctors and patients.
• Professional and courteous interactions with staff and patients.
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to and from the exam room and complete intake per protocol.
• Prepare exam rooms between patients and tidy up after procedures.
• Prepare syringes and administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.
• Assist providers with injectable procedures as needed.
• Prepare pathology and lab specimens and route them per insurance requirements.
• Answer patient questions in person and by phone as instructed by the physician.
• Schedule or reschedule appointments with providers and specialists.
• Follow OSHA, bloodborne pathogen standards and HIPAA requirements.
• Maintain medication samples and discard outdated supplies, keeping records.
• Train other staff on medical assistant duties as required.
• Assist with check-in/check-out at the front desk as a backup.
• Perform additional duties as required by the practice.
