Job summary

The College of Health Care Professions (CHCP) seeks a Medical Assistant Externship Coordinator to bridge classroom learning with real-world practice. You will cultivate externship sites, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and support students from orientation to employment.

You will manage relationships with externship partners, monitor student performance, and drive the 40% extern-to-hire goal while collaborating with Career Services and Placement teams to ensure successful

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of practical experience in the medical field.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential required.
• Phlebotomy Certification and PCT Certification required.
• CPR certification preferred.
• No prior teaching experience required; training will be provided.
• Passion for mentoring students and supporting their professional development.

Responsibilities

• Secure and manage a network of externship sites for Medical Assistant students, ensuring a variety of placement opportunities.
• Achieve and maintain a minimum 40% extern-to-hire conversion rate across assigned sites.
• Conduct regular site visits to monitor student performance and maintain externship partner relationships.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including TWC regulations.
• Collaborate with Career Services and Placement teams to support students’ transition from externship to employment.
• Provide guidance to students regarding attendance, professionalism, and performance expectations.
• Conduct externship orientations and assist students with resume writing and interview preparation.
• Maintain documentation including timecards, evaluations, and affiliation agreements.
• Track student progress and ensure completion of evaluations and exit interviews.
• Promote the externship program through outreach and networking within the medical community.
