Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring a Medical Assistant to support outpatient clinics in Central Massachusetts. You will escort patients, take vital signs, perform EKGs and phlebotomy, prepare injections, and assist with exams and documentation.

This role emphasizes accurate charting, lab result review, insurance verifications, and collaboration with licensed clinicians to ensure quality patient care and efficient workflows.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver (HS) certification from the American Heart Association. If not available upon hire, a BLS/HS must be obtained within 3 months from date of hire.
• Medical Assistant credential, approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health (ARMA, NHA, etc.), must be obtained within 1 year from date of hire/transfer.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to examination rooms and record vital signs.
• Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, and Point of Care tests according to standards.
• Assist in preparing and administering injections within scope of practice.
• Assist with routine physical examinations or clinical procedures.
• Review lab results and communicate abnormal results to the physician.
• Maintain patient care areas and instrument sterilization per protocol.
• Assist with patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
