Job summary

UPMC is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to join Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Oakland. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm, with no evenings or weekends.

The role includes back office and front office duties, with opportunity for growth based on experience and education. Responsibilities include HIPAA-compliant records handling, lab and imaging report coordination, patient flow, phlebotomy, EKGs, vaccines, and adherence to OSHA/CLIA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information; schedule appointments; verify insurance; manage patient charts.
• Prepare patient rooms and equipment; maintain infection control; manage supplies inventory.
• Check schedules and organize patient flow; accompany patients to exam rooms; assist with walking, transfers, and specimen collection.
• Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs; assist physicians with procedures; document in medical records.
• Comply with OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health; maintain confidentiality; follow UPMC Health System policies.
• Under physician supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.
