Qualifications

Idaho Falls Community Hospital is looking for a Medical Assistant / Certified Medical Assistant to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant or CMA is responsible for assisting physician with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks in a busy pediatric specialty center. Responsible for appointment scheduling including care and chart management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinic services. Conveys a positive image of clinic. Collect, process routine testing, and returning results back to doctor. Obtain, process doctor’s orders, and data entry. Provide good customer service on the phone, patients, doctors, and other medical staff. Work well under pressure. Perform specimen collection and handling.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Medical Assistant/CMA

  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physician with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
  • Proficiency in collecting correct blood samples and other body fluids, ensuring proper patient identification, and labeling of samples.
  • Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting and delivering samples to laboratory. Knowledge of handling laboratory supplies and stocks supplies.
  • Follows standards precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Knowledge and performance of sterile tech.
  • Proficient in clerical responsibilities including: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
  • Performs facility responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Maintains Point of Care documents and performs Quality Control management.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited high school program or higher. Current BLS Certification. Valid driver’s license.
  • CMA course preferred, not required. Phlebotomy course and phlebotomy experience. Pediatric experience is preferred, not required.
  • Experience with computers and office equipment, required.
  • The ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Bilingual is a plus. Must understand medical terminology.
