Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care within the Medical Assisting scope. You will document patient information, perform vital signs and medication reviews, and assist with both in-person and virtual visits.

The role includes EMR documentation, front-d desk workflows, and ensuring accurate charting and communication with providers in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

  • Active Medical Assisting certification from CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, or NRCMA (NRCMA not accepted in South Carolina).
  • BLS Basic Life Support required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire and required prior to independent patient care at BSMH.
  • High School/GED required.
  • In South Carolina, completion of an approved Medical Assistant post-secondary education or qualifying health sciences, military, apprenticeship, or employer-delivered training program is required.
  • Completion of externship or clinical lab training preferred.
  • 1 year of recent Medical Assisting experience preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaboratively work with patients, families, and teams within a high-volume environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide indirect and/or direct patient care within the Medical Assisting scope of practice.
  • Obtain and document patient chief complaints, vital signs, health maintenance checks, medication reviews, and other patient details.
  • Document patient and family needs and participate in planning and implementing patient care.
  • Administer ordered oral, injected, and topical medications within scope and state guidelines.
  • Identify significant changes in patient condition and report them to the provider.
  • Troubleshoot issues and escalate to provider or appropriate internal resource.
  • Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for physicians.
  • Travel to other facilities for providers or adjust hours to meet patient care needs.
  • Maintain clean, orderly, safe, and properly equipped work areas and examination rooms.
  • Assist patients and providers with virtual health visits, including setup, pre-charting, patient preparation, troubleshooting, and information gathering.
  • Accurately document in electronic medical records and manage provider-directed EHR inbox messages.
  • Perform front desk workflows including MyChart requests, registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, and check-in/check-out.
  • Follow up on orders, appointments, referrals, and visits; collect co-pays as needed.
  • Order supplies, track referrals, labs, and diagnostic tests, and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Record medical histories, vital statistics, test results, and laboratory specimens.
  • Prepare and administer medications, perform routine laboratory tests, and provide prescription refill information as directed.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and perform general office duties.

Requirements


  • Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the listed certifying organizations is required: CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, or NRCMA (NRCMA not accepted in South Carolina)

  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association, required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire and required prior to independent patient care at BSMH

  • High School/GED required

  • In South Carolina, completion of an approved Medical Assistant post-secondary education or qualifying health sciences, military, apprenticeship, or employer-delivered training program is required
