Responsibilities

Job description

• Provide patient care within the Medical Assistant scope of practice and follow applicable policies and procedures
• Perform rooming and visit tasks, including vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings
• Assist providers with or perform ordered procedures
• Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, labeling, packing, lab requisitions, and results tracking
• Conduct point-of-care testing and CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests according to applicable standards
• Administer medications and vaccines safely
• Process medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety and regulatory logs, patient messages, medication and supply orders, appointments, and referrals
• Cross-train and perform specialty or clinic duties within scope
• Communicate effectively, collaborate with team members, and escalate appropriately
• Maintain a clean, stocked, and functional work environment and equipment
• Provide age-appropriate patient care based on patient status and departmental standards

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, approved Medical Assistant program, structured clinical military training per DD214, or EMT, depending on division
• For IL/WI Divisions and Floyd & Navicent: 2 years of verifiable full-time Medical Assistant experience within the last 5 years may substitute for program completion
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification required for Greater Charlotte and Wake Forest
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification issued by AHA must be obtained within 45 days for IL/WI Divisions and Floyd & Navicent unless deemed unnecessary by the department leader
• Successful completion of Atrium Health competency assessment where required
• Certain listed Medical Assistant certifications recognized for Wake Forest
• PEARS may be required within 1 year in select areas
• No experience required
• Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within Medical Assistant scope after demonstrated competency
• Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, Windows navigation, email, and exposure to electronic medical records
• Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
• Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine-hand manipulation skills
• Ability to operate required equipment and work around mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body-fluid hazards
