Summary of Duties
The Medical Assistant supports providers with patient examinations, treatments, procedures, and maintains efficient clinic flow.
Primary Responsibilities
- Greet and assist patients, gather pre-examination info.
- Document patient history, recent visits, hospitalizations in EMR.
- Measure and record vital signs and other relevant data.
- Record chief complaints in EMR.
- Administer medications and injections as directed, document accordingly.
- Review Telephone Encounters in EMR promptly.
- Administer immunizations, update immunization records, and provide Vaccine Information Statements.
- Prepare and restock examination rooms efficiently.
- Assist providers during exams and procedures.
- Participate in training to improve patient care and evidence-based practices.
- Address patient and family needs with cultural sensitivity.
- Follow safety protocols, including Universal Precautions and PPE use.
- Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Coordinate referrals and communicate results with community organizations and specialists.
- Assist in medical emergencies as directed.
- Support patient education and care plans.
- Travel between clinics and provide backup coverage as needed.
- Support accreditation efforts and healthcare quality goals.
- Demonstrate personal integrity, ethical conduct, and sound judgment.
- Function as part of emergency response teams.
- Understand and manage emergency kits and crash carts.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Essential Functions
- Lift at least 25 pounds.
- Assist patients onto and off exam tables.
Qualifications
Requirements, Skills, Knowledge
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Proficiency in core competencies within 90 days.
- CPR certification within 90 days.
- Ability to accurately record information.
- Willingness to learn EMR software.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Ability to perform tasks, administer medications, and use lab instrumentation within 90 days.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and organizational policies.
Preferred Skills
- Previous medical assistant or clinic experience.
