Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant assists Providers with patient examinations, pre-visit questions, treatments, and procedures as directed, ensuring an efficient flow of patients.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet and escort patients for pre-examination information gathering.
- Inquire about self-referrals, ER visits, hospitalizations; document all info in EMR.
- Measure and record patient info: height, weight, vitals, head circumference, etc., accurately in EMR.
- Document chief complaints in EMR.
- Administer medications and injections under provider’s directions, document in EMR.
- Review and respond to Telephone Encounters in EMR promptly.
- Administer immunizations, provide Vaccine Information Statements, update immunization records.
- Prepare and restock exam rooms, assist providers in exams and procedures.
- Participate in training to improve patient care, including evidence-based practices.
- Address patient and family needs, considering cultural sensitivity and effective communication.
- Follow safety protocols, dispose of contaminated items properly, and use PPE as needed.
- Comply with HIPAA and OSHA guidelines and policies.
- Coordinate referrals, communicate with community organizations, and relay results to providers.
- Assist with medical emergencies as directed.
- Support patient care plans and education per provider’s recommendations.
- Travel to other centers and provide backup coverage as needed, with mileage reimbursement.
- Support accreditation efforts and organizational goals, embodying high moral and ethical standards.
- Function effectively in emergency situations, understand and restock emergency kits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Lift at least 25 pounds.
- Assist patients onto and off exam tables as directed.
Qualifications
Requirements, Skills, or Knowledge:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Proficiency in core competencies within 90 days.
- CPR certification within 90 days.
- Ability to obtain and record accurate information.
- Willingness to learn EMR software.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Ability to perform tasks, administer medications, and understand lab instrumentation as directed.
- Effective communication skills with diverse patient populations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and organizational policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous medical assistant or clinic experience.
