Job summary

The Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic in Kennewick, WA offers a Medical Assistant Apprentice program with paid on-the-job training and guided coursework to complete 2,000 hours under an MA coach. It includes 410 hours of online coursework and hands‑on lab days with a skilled instructor.

The program emphasizes in‑person preparation for patient visits, EMR documentation, and hands‑on clinical skills, supervised by experienced Providers.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• CPR certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Certifications must be current and maintained.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred at level 10 with ALTA score of 10.
• Medical knowledge and ability to understand clinical concepts.
• Strong people skills, multitasking ability, and adaptability.
• Proficiency with computer programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, Epic and EMR.

Responsibilities

• Maintain patient records and update medical history, vitals, and treatments.
• Prepare for patient visits, review files, and coordinate labs/referrals.
• Collaborate with Providers to maintain efficient schedules and continuity of care.
• Prepare and maintain exam rooms with necessary supplies and sterilization.
• Explain procedures and provide patient education within scope.
• Respond to patient questions in person or by email and route outside questions appropriately.
• Assist physicians during examinations, procedures, and minor surgeries.
• Collect and prepare lab specimens and document results in EMR.
• Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician.
• Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission, HRSA, and YVFWC requirements.
