Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, WA, is seeking a Medical Assistant Apprentice (MA Trainee) to learn under a preceptor and become eligible for the CCMA exam. The program spans 2000 hours over 1 year, with shifts 7:30am–4:00pm, Monday–Friday, assisting in patient flow and procedure support.

You will gain hands-on experience in vital signs, patient transport, and clinic operations while engaging in learning opportunities and process-improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; BLS certification required.
• BLS AHA Health Provider Card with renewal every two years.
• Willingness to participate in process improvement initiatives.
• Proficient in email and word processing.
• Strong interpersonal and customer services skills.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, complex healthcare environment.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize and problem solve.
• Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to follow direction and guidance.
• Ability to identify learning needs and plan learning opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Patient flow: rooms patients and families into exam or procedure area.
• Initial patient assessment: vital signs, pain assessment, fall risk.
• Conduct clerical tasks, patient transport, cleaning and restocking of exam rooms and other duties.
• Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and escalate appropriately.
• Customer services: liaison between patient/families and healthcare providers.
• Procedure assistant: prepare for and assist with procedures.
