The MA is an essential member of the healthcare team responsible for patient care of patients aged six months throughout the lifespan. The MA will work collaboratively with an LPN and/or RN to provide safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, educative, individualized, and goal-directed nursing care to patients and their families in the Surgery Center.

  1. Assist in the admission process by escorting patients from the reception area, providing appropriate preparation and instructions, and assuring patient privacy.
  2. Assist in FEMTO laser procedures as needed.
  3. Assist in sterile processing as needed.
  4. Assist in the safe transport of patients. Clean and remake stretchers utilizing proper infection control procedures and operate stretchers to meet patient needs.
  5. Under the direction of RN and/or LPN, obtain vital signs, assist patients with ambulation, dressing, and undressing.
  6. Provide nourishment for patients under the direction of RN and/or LPN.
  7. Assist in patient discharge procedures, including escorting patients safely from the facility to transportation.
  8. Assist in unit housekeeping activities.
  9. Properly dispose of biohazardous waste.
  10. Assist in restocking supplies.
  11. Perform other tasks as directed by RN/LPN.
  12. Serve as a patient advocate.
  13. Identify own learning needs and goals and seek guidance to meet those needs.
  14. Maintain a proactive response to all situations.
  15. Monitor and assess the physical status of the patient through observation and interaction.
  16. Provide instructions, training, and education to patients and family members.
  17. Report and document all pertinent observations.
  18. Use supplies, equipment, and resources efficiently to contain costs without compromising care.
  19. Utilize universal precautions when providing patient care.
  20. Demonstrate genuine concern and empathy to all customers by treating each person with respect and dignity.
  21. Maintain knowledge of all equipment and supplies, especially emergency drugs, supplies, and equipment.
  22. Be flexible to the needs of the center, accepting changes in assignment and schedule based on patient care needs.
  23. Maintain accountability for customer satisfaction.
  24. Seek guidance, direction, and assistance when needed.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Current State licensure as Medical Assistant
  • Minimum of one-year Medical Assistant experience; outpatient surgery experience preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ophthalmology experience preferred
  • Sterile processing/instrument prep experience preferred
  • FEMTO laser experience preferred

Compensation: USD $22.00/hour

Additional: USD $30.00/year
