Job summary

The Medical Assistant at Medi-Weightloss® reports to the Office Manager and supports clinical staff under Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant supervision. You will take vitals, administer intramuscular injections, perform urinalysis, EKGs, body composition analyses, and phlebotomy, while documenting patient progress and coordinating care.

Job description

The Medical Assistant reports administratively and operationally to the Office Manager. Clinical duties are performed under the direction of the clinic's Nurse Practitioner(s) and/or Physician Assistant(s), with medical oversight provided by the Medical Director, and in accordance with applicable clinic policies, delegated authority, and medical protocols established by Medi-Weightloss®. This role involves providing patient care, including obtaining vitals, administering intramuscular injections, performing urinalysis, EKGs, body composition analysis, and phlebotomy. Additionally, the Medical Assistant documents patient progress and assists in managing patient care. The work environment is fast-paced, and the role encompasses a variety of responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions
  • Conducts urinalysis, EKGs, phlebotomy, and body composition assessments.
  • Administers intramuscular injections as authorized and directed by the appropriate licensed practitioner and clinic protocols.
  • Prepares laboratory order forms.
  • Obtains and reviews patient laboratory results within the scope of the role and routes clinical questions or abnormal findings to the appropriate licensed practitioner.
  • Assists Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and/or the Medical Director with patient referrals to other healthcare professionals.
  • Refers non-routine, sensitive, or complex requests to the appropriate staff member or licensed practitioner.
  • Ensures exceptional patient service by maintaining a friendly environment, greeting patients, and upholding high standards.
  • Performs other clinical duties as required and appropriately delegated.
Non-essential Job Functions
  • Documents patient progress notes in the patient chart and/or EMR.
  • Conducts follow-up calls to patients to discuss progress and address concerns, referring clinical questions to the appropriate licensed practitioner.
  • Utilizes a multi-line phone system to answer and appropriately route incoming calls.
  • Assists the Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, and/or Medical Director with medication and clinic supply inventory procedures.
  • Conducts consultations with patients regarding the Medi-Weightloss® program as delegated by the appropriate licensed practitioner and in accordance with clinic protocols.
  • Assists with various administrative duties, including answering telephones, scheduling patients, and filing medical records.
  • Trains new staff in daily procedures as requested by the Office Manager and/or clinical leadership.
  • Participates in clinic marketing efforts and provides ongoing support to promote clinic profitability and success.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by cleaning and disinfecting patient areas between uses and as needed, following manufacturer instructions and clinic infection-control procedures.
  • Assists with general clinic maintenance including restocking of inventory and cleaning and restocking restrooms and other areas as needed.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Nurse Practitioner(s), Physician Assistant(s), Medical Director, and/or Office Manager to meet the ongoing needs of the clinic.
Requirements
  • Clinical experience in EKG and phlebotomy.
  • Prior experience and training in exercise (preferred).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Education, certification, and/or licensure as required by applicable state regulations and the duties assigned.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and email applications.
  • Capability to lift and carry over 25 pounds and sit for extended periods.
Preferences
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Two years' experience in phlebotomy.
