Job summary

SouthStar in Opelousas, LA is hiring a Medical Assistant to support patient care in a collaborative clinic. You’ll prepare patients, record vital signs, assist with examinations, and help maintain sterile exam rooms.

Qualifications

• Education and licensure requirements.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred (RMA, AAMA, NCCT, CMAC, AMCA).
• BLS/CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examination, record vital signs and history, and assist with treatments as applicable.
• Prepare and maintain exam rooms; sterilize and set up supplies and equipment for procedures.
• Perform injections, dressings, and wound care under providers’ orders.
• Collect blood and other specimens; log results and prepare for testing.
• Document basic patient care and procedures in EMR.
• Schedule tests and follow-up appointments; educate patients and families.
• Collaborate with team to ensure seamless patient care; perform phlebotomy and clinic duties as assigned.
• Perform opening/closing clinic duties and patient callbacks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Medical Assistant certification (RMA/AAMA/NCCT/CMAC/AMCA)

CPR/BLS certification

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare patients for examination, records vital signs and history, and provides treatment as applicable
• Prepares exam/treatment rooms; select, setup, sterilize, and maintain medical supplies and equipment for procedures
• Prepare and administer injections, change dressings, and facilitate wound management under providers orders
• Collect blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens through routine in-house testing procedures, and analyze and prepare for testing, log results, and perform lab call-backs
• Document basic patient care and procedures, utilizing appropriate forms and electronic medical records
• Schedule patients for tests, initial, and follow-up appointments if applicable in care setting
• Instructs patients and family regarding treatment and medication instructions
• Collaborate, take direction, and initiate actions that will allow the assumption of cross-functional team actions to ensure seamless patient care
• Phlebotomy
• Perform opening/closing clinic duties and patient call backs
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent is required.
• Certificate/License: Current Certification as a Medical Assistant through one of the following programs is preferred (RMA, AAMA, NCCT, CMAC, AMCA). Current BLS certification is required.
• Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is preferred

Compensation:

Pay is based on experience, skills and falls within an established range.
